PRICE-John LaMar Hussey, 91, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of September 2, 2022 following a brief illness.

LaMar was born on August 22, 1931 in Salt Lake City to John Wells and Elsie Wiscomb Hussey. He had two older sisters, Vivian and Mary. The family moved to Price in 1933. One more sister, Dorathy, was born after the move. LaMar graduated from Carbon High School in 1949 where he played on the football team. He also played for Carbon College for the following two seasons.

He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Ann Nielsen, in the Salt Lake Temple on May 26, 1952. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Fort Ord, California where Dad served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant of the guard during the Korean conflict.  While they were there, their oldest daughter, Dana, was born. He loved this country and was proud of his military service.

Following their return to Price, they were blessed with seven more children. Dad was a quiet, unassuming man, but we knew that he was proud of his family and their accomplishments.

LaMar left a legacy of hard work and integrity. He was happiest when he was working. He was a successful businessman. He owned and operated Oil City for many years. He also owned and operated Roto-Rooter until his retirement. He was a master gardener and grew an abundant garden and shared the bounty with family and friends. He was an avid BYU Cougars football fan and never missed watching or listening to a game.

He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a firm testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. He served as a bishop of the Price Third Ward, young men’s president, and stake high councilor. He and Frances served a full-time mission to the Chile, Concepción mission in 1990-1991. They also served as ordinance workers in the Manti Temple for 12.5 years. He was a regular helper at the Price genealogy library for many years. LaMar was kind and soft spoken. He never criticized others or raised his voice.

He left a legacy of hard work and dedication. Most recently, he worked at the community garden and the Utah Food Bank. Not many 90-year-old people were as dedicated as he was. He volunteered his time three days a week until shortly before his passing. When he first became ill, he voiced concern about who would work his shifts. He loved being useful.

LaMar is survived by, Frances, his much-loved wife of 70 years; seven of his eight children, Dana Tucker (Richard, deceased), Dixon Hussey (Robin), Robin Thayn (David), Doug Hussey (Dana), Daryl Hussey (Dalina, deceased), Beth Ann Payne (Ron), Doreen Raven (Keenan); 31 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren with two more on the way and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Hussey; three sisters, Vivian, Mary, and Dorathy; son, David Hussey (Lucy); and grandson, Seth Hussey.

LaMar was greatly loved by his large family. He will be missed by us all.

The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Sterling Potter and the wonderful ladies at Community Nursing Services who provided care for LaMar the past two months, during his illness.
